evening notes, mmxxi-v-xviii

afternoon thunderstorms turned into a pretty evening
still some rumbling going on

ranch notes, mmxxi-v-xviii

the fawn was gamboling about today
(just down the hill from the round pen so cora was watching)
the bird is a scarlet tanager - i see them once or twice a year
they're shy but they're hard to miss when they're out

porch notes, mmxxi-v-xvii

A thunderstorm unleashed a sudden wall of water
as I stood watching from the porch
and this little fledgling sparrow fluttered over my head
to land on the asparagus fern behind me.
(It got so dark the porch light turned itself on.)

the bug in the third picture is a squash vine borer
it's a moth that lays its eggs on the vine
and when the larvae hatch they bore into the vine and destroy it from within
there's a katydid hiding in both prickly pear blossoms in the bottom picture
i like katydids
