tepary beans



These would pass for pebbles if not for the little red circles around the blowholes. This is probably two-thirds of this year's total harvest - there are a few more coming along still. The beans did better than the peas, though. With these I got back about twice the number I planted, but only about half with the peas.

My Native American food book says the desert people preferred these to other beans, because when you eat tepary beans, you only have to eat twice a day, but when you eat ordinary beans, you have to eat three times.
