ranch notes, mmxx-viii-xxiv

The veterinarian confirmed that Cora has a capped hock, but her gait is good, she's not showing any pain, and the ultrasound showed the joint was fine. There are several treatment options, but none seemed a whole lot better than letting nature take care of it, so for now we're going to monitor and re-evaluate on their next visit to the ranch.
The flowers are Snow on the Mountain. There's a very similar plant called Snow on the Prairie, which would make more sense around here seein' as how the nearest mountains are a few hundred miles away, but I think that one has narrower leaves.

Looks like Cora has a "capped hock," a kind of bursitis - it doesn't seem to be bothering her and she let me massage it, which she probably wouldn't do if it was painful. We'll have to have a veterinarian look at it - it might have to be drained, or get some x-rays to see whether something worse is going on in the joint. Ugh.

I was hacking around with Cora yesterday when she decided to go into one of the stalls, but the bar above the gate was right at the height of my head so I grabbed it like I was doing a pull-up and let her walk out from underneath me. It worked out OK but in the future I'll save our hacks for when nobody's around.
