The keratinous callous on an equine's inner front leg above the knee is called a chestnut. They flake and shed naturally, and the top layer of one of Cora's fell off in one piece as I was grooming her today. Think I'll hang on to it for the time being; I imagine a unicorn chestnut is a potent ingredient for certain spells and potions and charms.

ReplyDeleteHaha yes dancing trees are scary because they're so enthusiastic, the big lumbering oafs, but little brown skinks are charming, they're always welcome.
