garden notes, mmxviii-xi-ii

There are hundreds of proboscis butterflies on this bush outside our kitchen window today.

  1. From what I've read it sounds like there was a population explosion - our September and October rains were good for them, lots of food for the caterpillars. Happens a lot with these guys. (They migrate to the Rio Grande Valley for winter but it's not a big migration like the monarchs.)
